On Wednesday 21st June, the Cambridge Centre for the Study of Platonism, in partnership with Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, and KU Leuven, will host a workshop 'The Practical Dimension of Platonism'.
There has been an increasing interest in Platonism and the Platonic tradition in recent years. However, what still needs to become the subject of serious study is the practical dimension of Platonism, from the ancient, pagan forms of Platonism throughout the mediaeval and Renaissance schools of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Neoplatonism to the modern variants of this vivid and inclusive tradition. Was Platonism not only a way to understand reality, but also a coherent way to live our lives in their therapeutic and spiritual, communal and political, artistic and creative dimensions? This seminar will provide an opportunity for discussing those topics, in the process of preparing an ERC grant application.
