Dr Gareth Polmeer has been awarded a two-year Pearl Fellowship at the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology to work on a project titled ‘Vision and the Invisible’. The project draws upon Plotinian ideas of likeness, image and form to explore relations between art, theology and philosophy in the digital age. Working from the tradition of contemplative writings, including figures such as Pseudo-Dionysius, the project explores the metaphysical significance of the image as a bridge between the visible and invisible, and of how, as appearance, the image mediates between the apophatic and the cataphatic.
